Oopsy is Back!

Lots of change. Marigny can crawl now (watch out pugs!) and Oopsy is staying with us again! Here’s a picture of Martine and Oopsy sitting in the basket of Tricia’s bike (for a very short ride – trying to be safe). Keep on the lookout for more… and follow us on Facebook for quick updates that don’t make it here!  Also, if you don’t remember Oopsy, you can click here to check out some previous posts with pictures of oopsy.

Martine Loves Gizmo!!

Here’s a quick picture of Martine with Gizmo and Marigny. As you may have guessed, Martine is as fond of Gizmo as ever (in fact, she routinely tells Gizmo that she loves him). Whenever we are in the car near our house, she will point out our house, at first calling it “Tine’s House,” but then also saying “Mommy’s house, Daddy’s House, Momo’s house, Manny’s (that’s how she says Marigny) house).

She’s a serious pug aficionado!

The Princess and the Pug

Martine’s growing up right before our eyes! She’s just learned about playing “dress up” (and I presume it will not be much longer until she learns to “dress” Gizmo). Anyway, she was outside playing in her costume yesterday, and I managed to take this snapshot of her with Gizmo.

Useful Pug Products

Life goes on…

Although we are still very sad that Gadget is not with us anymore, life goes on. Marigny hasn’t made much of an appearance on Urban Pug yet, and I’m happy to report that Gizmo gets along great with BOTH of his sisters now. Martine has been “raised by pugs” so to speak, so there’s absolutely nothing odd to her about this first picture that I took this morning. Tonight, though, I managed to snap a somewhat decent shot of Martine holding Marigny with Gizmo sitting next to both of them.

All Night Long!

The advantage of having a new pug arrive after your human child is that the new pug doesn’t have the experience of years of sleeping with YOU.  Last night Demi slept all night with Martine in her toddler bed. G&G are too used to our bed to make their way into Marine’s room (but you never know)

Demi was supposed to stay with us for a little while, then go live with my parents, as a companion for their current solo pug, Lexy.  However, last night Martine stayed in her bed ALL NIGHT, even though she woke up and cried.  Somehow, having Demi there kept her in her bed.  If this keeps up, we might just have to keep Demi with us…  or maybe we can train Gadget to sleep there in Demi’s place.

What’s different about this picture?

First, go look at this post and this one.  Take a look at the pictures there.  Then, look at these pictures, and try to figure out the differences.

There are three differences in these pictures.
  1. There is a third pug.  But, the third pug is Demi, not Oopsy.  Oopsy has gone back to live with Tricia’s mother, and Demi has come to New Orleans.  See pictures of Demi here, here, and here.
  2. Gadget has lost 10 pounds.  He’s a lot skinnier — we even had to get him a new collar!! (Although, if you look at the first link to a picture of Demi, it’s a post dated November 11, 2005, where I mention that Gadget is only 21 pounds — he was just about 2 years old, then)
  3. The baby in the picture is not Martine.  It’s Marigny!  Yes, that’s right, we now have TWO human children.  Marigny’s name comes from the Faubourg Marigny, a neighborhood in New Orleans, which itself is named after Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville, whose family’s lands became the neighborhood.  Her name is more about being unique (as we have an extremely common last name) and representing our (and her) hometown.  It’s pronounced like “air” and “knee” — Mair-a-knee.  Martine is taking fabulously to being a big sister.  She absolutely LOVES baby.  Here is a picture of Martine holding her little sister:

What a weekend!

This weekend was super busy with lots of fun things to do. Of course, the holiday began on Thursday, with thanksgiving. You’ll see here what Gadget likes to do…

975074

Just what everyone else does after dinner, take a NAP!

975078

Oopsy likes the sofa too…  each pug took a person.

975082

And there’s no doubt that Oopsy loves Jessica!

975069

On Friday, we took Martine to Lafreniere Park to feed the ducks.  She doesn’t really understand ducks yet, so she kept running after them, trying to hand-feed them bread.  She would run up to them and say “here you go duck.”  We also took Oopsy to the park.

975086

She loved it, but we couldn’t let her get too close to those ducks!!!

Sleepy time for Gizmo

975038
Martine and Gizmo get along fabulously.  Every day before we leave the house, she looks forward to having us take three treats out and give them to her.  She then goes from pug to pug, placing the treats in their mouths.  They’ve totally got her trained, and she loves it!  I even made some pumpkin pies the other day, and she made her way into the fridge, found a butter knife, and scooped out a piece of pie — not to eat, but to give to GADGET!  In other words, it was just like she broke into the fridge and cut a piece of pie for the dogs.   I walked in on this happening, just as Gadget was taking a bite.
This picture is of Gizmo and Martine, asleep.  She loves to sleep with the pugs, still, and, as you can see from this picture, they love to cuddle up with her.

Martine Feeds Gadget

Martine is good at sharing her food with the pugs. So good, in fact, that we think they have brainwashed her into giving them half of her food! Maybe they tricked her, convincing her that in return for letting her stay here, they would require her to give them half of her food? Who knows, but she loves feeding them treats.

A Basket Case for Pugs

Martine has discovered playing in the laundry basket, and she has also discovered that it’s a whole lot more fun if you can fit some pugs in there, too. Oopsy is actually the easiest to fit in there, but she only tolerates being in there for so long. Gadget (as you can see in the video) wants absolutely nothing to do with this game. However, Gizmo, I think, actually LIKES being in there. I’m not sure if you can tell from the pictures or video, but he’s actually kinda relaxing in there, just chillin, putting his chin on the edge of the basket.

After a little while, Oopsy wanted out, but Gizmo didn’t want to get out until everyone else was leaving the room.

Picture Captioning

974926

A few weeks ago, I posted a picture on Facebook, and asked people to suggest possible “picture captions.” I said I’d post the best ones to Urban Pug, but I couldn’t decide, so I’m putting all of them here.

Remember, you can become a “fan” of Urban Pug on Facebook, just go to http://www.facebook.com/urbanpug, and click “become a fan.” Then, you’ll be able to get Urban Pug updates in your stream. Anyway, here’s the picture and the captions.

Even More Pug Walker

Here’s another video of Martine walking the pugs. This time, at the end of the video, I ask her which Pug she’s walking, and she responds “Momo” (which is what we call Gizmo)

Pug Walker

This weekend, I was going to take the pugs on a walk, like I usually do. However, one thing was different this time. You see, Martine knows where the leashes are, but this weekend, she figured out what they were for. She realized that I was putting them on the pugs and taking them outside — so, I took her with me. This is the result:

Also, Martine is beginning to talk, and she is using more words all the time now. But, I’d like to point out right now, that she has the following words in her vocabulary.

  • Dog
  • Woof (is what dogs say)
  • Momo (is what we call Gizmo)
  • Baba (bottle)
  • Dada (she uses this to refer to me, Tricia, and herself when asked “who is that in the picture”, although she does say Mama sometimes, and can definitely distinguish between Mama and Dada on the hearing side, just not the speaking side)
  • No (her favorite word, next to “dog”)
  • Shoes (she LOVES shoes and is fixated on having them on/taking them off/having them back on again)

I’m leaving out a few, but those are the words she uses most of the time. Note that almost half of them are pug-related!!! She loves her pugs!

Spaghetti Pugs

Watch all the way til the end. The Pugs are our clean up crew!

Update!

Sorry it’s been a long time since I’ve had a chance to update. Since the last update, I’ve graduated from law school, had a big party at the house, and started the grueling bar exam review process… Along with taking care of three pugs and a baby who can now do LOTS more than she could a few months ago, including get into lots of stuff she shouldn’t be into!

Here are a few pictures that include Martine playing next to the baby pool w/ Oopsy, Oopsy & Gizmo taking over Martine’s Toddler Bed, and Martine NOT giving Gadget his Chicken Jerky! Just look at Gadget’s face, he’s saying “Oh no you didn’t!”
