great dane and black lab control?

Here’s something that’s bothering me.  Yesterday morning, I walked g&g early in the morning and we saw someone walking their dogs.  It was a woman in her 40’s about 5’6″ 130 lbs.  She was walking a large black lab AND a black great dane (only a bit larger than the lab)

both dogs heeled, but the woman still had trouble controlling them.  not that they weren’t doign what was asked, but they were just so big that any movements of theirs were hard for the woman to deal with.

i ask you, is this right?  i think that someone who is “just barely able to control their dogs when they are calm and submissive” should NOT be walking those dogs.

that’s just myopinion.

Gizmo in the chair

Originally uploaded by jmatthew3.

Gizmo absolutely loves going in the chair when we study. Whether it’s next to me or next to tricia, he’s got to be sitting next to us. Gadget’s a licker. That’s exactly what he’s doing in this picture, though you can’t really tell.

The pugs are pretty closely shaven, though you can’t exactly tell. The thing that gives it away is that you can see his “wrinkles” on his body (he and i disagree that they are fat rolls). Pugs can just be wrinkled all over their body, you just never see the other wrinkles because they are covered by hair.

Oh, and I have one complaint for today. I think that food service businesses should pay much closer attention to their customer service and quality of product, especially the smaller ones. I had a wrap today at lunch, and the woman who made it threw everything together and wrapped it up so shoddily that i had to eat it with a fork after it fell apart. Then, at dinner, the sausage w/ my red beans wasn’t hot.

The cafeteria at work had some similar problems. I contend that these problems are enough to cause significant financial harm. For example, I will probably never get a wrap from this place again. Say i’d eat there 2 times a week for the next 3 school years (9 months * 4 weeks * 3 years * 2 times per week) That’s 216 wraps at about 6 bucks each is about 1300 dollars i probably would have spent with them that i won’t. just because i now think that the wraps i get there will be put together poorly. just because that one person gave me bad service.

i dont know, i think part of the problem is that the person who served me has no incentive to do a good job. is she a stakeholder in the company? no. was there even a manager there? i dont think so. there’s literally no accountability for performance or “intangible incentive” to do a good job.

she’s not going to get a bonus if i go back day after day. she’s not going to be penalized if she doesn’t do her job. the only thing that lets her do a good job is internal respect for oneself in doing a good job, which i think is extremely hard to find in that industry. — waiting tables at a fancy restaurant, or even a not so fancy restaurant, you have people who are going to care about what they do. at the wrap place in the food court of a university? maybe not

gadget says he doesnt care if his wrap is made messily, he just wants one.

Sound Asleep Pugs (Pugs at law school?)

It’s my first week of law school, and i’m busy, so I don’t have any pictures, but I do have something funny to report.

I’ve been getting up a bit earlier (a lot earlier) — The alarm goes off at 5:30 on MWF.  Tricia and I drive to school together, I drop her off, I go to school, and I pick her up later.  (This is in exchange for the prized parking pass which lets me park closer to the my law school than anyone else at my school, probably including faculty [except those who teach at both law schools])

yes, there are some who teach at both, and, REALLY oddly enough, tricia (a 3L) is in the same class with the same professor at a different school as me.  We both have the same prof for Criminal Law.

The first year of law school is very structured.  You have to take certain classes.  It’s really odd that an upperclassman would be in Criminal Law, much less a third year.  It’s all because of Tricia’s shift from night to day student status along with Katrina really screwing things up for several semesters.

Anyway, back to pugs.  because weve been getting up so early, and, well, the pugs aren’t adjusted to it yet, they’re complete BRICKS when we wake up. (so am i)  This morning, i picked gizmo up and moved him, and i dont think he woke up at all.

I dont know if this is all that funny.  I’m just tired.  If you want to make me happy, talk about your pug in the forums.  See link below. (No really, i love seeing people post, I love seeing the pictures of your dogs, I love hearing about them.  It makes me happy to take a moment in the middle of the day to go check the forums and see a new post.)

Pug Overheating?

Just a quick update: Pugs can get lethally overheated very easily. To promote some discussion of this, I’ve started a thread on the subject — How Hot Is Too Hot? – Pug Overheating.

Gizmo and Gadget Pug Painting by Vanessa Ezell

Tricia’s friend Courtney gave us this AMAZING painting for a wedding gift, and it just came in. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. It’s from a photo that i turned into a Pug Wallpaper that Courtney gave to the artist, VaNessa Ezell, who runs the website Pawsed in Paint.

This is totally awesome. Gizmo thinks it’s amazing, and so does Gadget. It’s going up above the sofa as soon as i can get the equipment to hang it.

We’ve been tagged! Pugs Love Broccoli

Here are the rules:

List 5 weird things about yourself or your pets. Tag 5 friends and list them. Then, those people need to write on their blogs about 5 weird things, and state the rules, and tag 5 more people. Don’t forget to let the people you tag know by posting a comment on their blog!

1) Gizmo pees on us when he’s around people he doesne know sometimes. We think it’s because he’s claiming us.
2) Gizmo has to find the highest spot. He climbs onto tables, backs of sofas, onto even low ledges, if that’s the high point he can get to.
3) Gadget rests his chin on everything. If there’s something for him to put his chin on, he will do it.
4) Gizmo takes 1 kernel of food out of his bowl at a time, puts it on the floor, then eats it.
5) Gizmo and Gadget both LOVE broccoli. they go bonkers for it.

I’m tagging:

  1. Shelby
  2. Riley
  3. Oscar
  4. Meimei and Miko
  5. Captain

If you’re not tagged, please share your own pug’s weird behaviors in the urban pug forums.

We had a great time at the pug meetup today. This is a closeup of gadget that I just had to post. he’s got such a pretty face!

We met lots of pugs at the meetup, and I posted all the pictures in a flickr photo set.

It’s been a busy week, and things are just going to get busier. I have orientation for law school this week. It’s strange to have planned something for so long and, well, it’s here. I’m starting. It’s still a strange feeling.

Web Based Image Resizing Tool

So, I’ve been working on a tool to resize photos, and it’s about ready for the public to use.  I call it RESIZR.  It makes use of scriptaculous and the GD library to resize images.  It’s meant to be extremely simple.

Gadget Goes Crazy for TCBY

Gadget is becoming a wild animal. He’s getting more and more insistant on getting food from Tricia. Here’s just the other night, when Gadget just HAD to get Tricia’s “chocolate vanilla swirl with heath bar mixed in.”

Look at his paw, he’s in the middle of climbing up to her head. Look at his eyes. See the intense stare? This is an action shot.

Pug Bedtime

it’s 4 hours past my bedtime

This picture is of gizmo, very late at night. He’s trying to hop into bed and go to sleep, but we weren’t ready for bed yet.

The pug shaving seems to have helped keep the boys cooler, and it’s getting time to shave them again. When you do shave your pug, you can really see the difference between the overcoat and the undercoat. I’ll have to get a picture of that and post it, it’s even possible for me to catch on camera.

Missing Pug

Tricia just got an email about this, and we were asked to post this. I hope the owner finds his dog.

There is a missing Pug from Slidell who lives in the area between West Hall and 190W, and Hwy 11.
If you know anything about this Pug, please send an email to nesie999@yahoo.com or call 985-201-2323.

The owner is very distraught, and has posted a $100 reward for the person who finds his dog.

I dont know what we’d do if we lost Gizmo or Gadget! I hope this turns out to have a happy ending!

Oh, and in the forums, Lucy’s mom posted a picture of Lucy, her Pugapoo! Cute!
